The United States Naval Shipbuilding Museum chronicles one of the area's richest industrial traditions. Its most notable attraction is the USS Salem, the only preserved Heavy Cruiser in the world, which contains exhibit areas on the ship as well as the USS Newport News and actions undertaken by US Navy SEALS. Visitors can actually spend the night in the cruiser and participate in simulated adventures through the museum's Overnight Adventure Program. The museum lies in the inactive Quincy Fore River Shipyard, situated east of downtown near Fore River Field.
Open Sat. - Sun. 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
General admission $5; Children 3 and under are free.
